Most sliding door problems announce themselves. Run these in two minutes and you will know what you are dealing with, and roughly what it costs.

The one-finger push

Unlock the sliding door and push it with one finger. A healthy door moves. If you need a shoulder, the rollers are flat-spotted or seized.

Verdict: roller replacement, the most common repair we do

The gap at the top

Close the sliding door and look at the gap between the panel and the frame at the top corner. A wedge shape means the panel has dropped on one side.

Verdict: rollers plus a height adjustment, sometimes a track cap

The lock that needs a lift

If you lift or pull the sliding door to make the latch catch, the lock is not broken. The door is out of alignment and the lock is the messenger.

Do I need to replace the whole sliding door?

Rarely. Nine out of ten sliding doors we see need rollers, a track cap, or a lock. Full replacement makes sense when the frame is corroded through or the glass is not impact-rated and you want it to be. We say which one it is at the house, in writing.

How fast can you come out?

Call and we give you the next open slot on the Boca or north-county route. We do not promise a time we cannot keep, so the answer depends on the day you call.

Do you work on impact and hurricane sliding doors?

Yes, and we stock the heavy tandem rollers they need. Most of our Highland Beach and east Delray calls are impact sliding doors.

Can you fix a sliding door that is off the track?

Yes. A sliding door leaves its track because the rollers collapsed or the track is worn. We re-hang it, replace what failed, and adjust it so it stays on.

What about the sliding screen door?

We repair or re-mesh sliding screen doors on the same visit. Screen rollers are cheap; a torn screen on a patio door is one of the fastest fixes we do.

Do you charge to come out?

The visit and the written price are free inside our Palm Beach County routes. You pay when you say yes to the repair.
